What is a private pilot license? Well,it's the first step of many in your aviation career. A private pilot license allows you to fly small single engine aircraft in good weather. You will learn basic aircraft handling, in-flight maneuvers, navigation as well as FAA regulations.

Here are just a few of the basics requirements for the Private Pilot License. We’ll discuss what’s entailed in each of these requirements later in this section.

  1. You must be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English Language
  2. You must be able to obtain at least a Third Class FAA medical certificate
  3. You must be 16 years old to solo and 17 years old to obtain a Private Pilot Certificate
  4. At minimum, you have to acquire 40 hours total flying time which includes a minimum of 20 hours of flight instruction (dual time) and 10 hours of solo flight (flights accomplished while alone in the cockpit).*
  5. You must pass the FAA Aeronautical Knowledge Private Pilot written exam
  6. You must pass the Private Pilot Practical Exam given by a Designated Examiner or the FAA

Specifications of the PPL Package:

Package must be paid in full

Must fly at least twice a week

The package cost is based on the FAA required minimums to recieve your PPL. The national average is between 60-75 hours of flight time, any additional time neeeded to prepare you for your flight test, will be billed at the standard rate, or block rates can be purchased.

Program can be completed in three months.

*HOBBS time is recorded by a meter in the aircraft that runs when the electrical system is on.
  1. Although least expensive, the Private Pilot Package is not your only choice. There are various methods of payment avialable. Contact our office for details.
  2. Due to the extreme fluctuations of fuel prices, there are addidtion fuel surcharges that may be added to the hourly cost of the aircraft. These charges are subject to change as the fuel costs change. Please call for current charges.
  3. Landing fees are not included and vary from airport to airport. Not all airports charge landing fees.
  4. Prior to your first solo, you must obtain non-owner's insurance and a FAA medical examination. These are additional cost.
  5. When you take your practical examination you have a choice between the FAA and a Designated Examiner (DE). The DE charges for his/her services.
