What is a
private pilot license? Well,it's the first step of many in your
aviation career. A private pilot license allows you to fly small single
engine aircraft in good weather. You will learn basic aircraft
handling, in-flight maneuvers, navigation as well as FAA regulations.
Here are
just a few of the basics requirements for the Private Pilot License.
We’ll discuss what’s entailed in each of these requirements later in
this section.
- You must be able to read, speak, write, and
understand the English Language
- You must be able to obtain at least a Third Class FAA
medical certificate
- You must be 16 years old to solo and 17 years old to
obtain a Private Pilot Certificate
- At minimum, you have to acquire 40 hours total flying
time which includes a minimum of 20 hours of flight instruction (dual
time) and 10 hours of solo flight (flights accomplished while alone in
the cockpit).*
- You must pass the FAA Aeronautical Knowledge Private
Pilot written exam
- You must pass the Private Pilot Practical Exam given
by a Designated Examiner or the FAA
